Halloween Saturday Is Taste of the Beach Saturday on Pensacola Beach

The tent going up at Gulfside Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 31 is for the food festival. This year the Taste of the Beach festival lands on Halloween. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 20 Casino Beach Boardwalk, the same pavilion where the Tuesday night concerts play. The Bob Sikes Bridge toll plaza is scheduled to finish its weekday lane work the day before.

So October's last stretch on the island follows two calendars. One belongs to the Santa Rosa Island Authority and the Pensacola Beach Chamber. The other belongs to the road crew at the island's entrance. They line up well. Every weekend event falls on days when the lane shifts are off. Every weeknight event falls on days when they are on.

The road schedule underneath the event schedule

Escambia County resumed lane closures and traffic shifts on Pensacola Beach Boulevard at the toll plaza on Sept. 14. Work runs 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Under the county's plan, there are no lane closures or shifts on Saturdays or Sundays. Crews remove them by 5 p.m. each Friday and put them back by 7 a.m. Monday. The roadwork is expected to wrap up by Friday, Oct. 30, weather and construction coordination permitting. That date comes from the county's Sept. 10 traffic notice and was repeated in the Pensacola News Journal's Sept. 14 roundup.

Oct. 30 is a target, not a guarantee. The county's Pensacola Beach Gateway Improvements project page was last updated Aug. 21. It lists final completion for the whole project as anticipated in November 2026. The two dates describe different milestones, and the county pages don't explain how they relate. The Oct. 30 date applies to the weekday lane shifts. The November date applies to the project as a whole.

The project replaces the old toll booth with a new gateway structure. According to the Santa Rosa Island Authority, that structure is a gantry carrying toll-by-plate equipment, CCTV cameras, and fiber communications. The county says the goals are better access for emergency vehicles and less congestion at the island's entrance. Paying the toll stays the same. Cash and coins stopped being collected in person on March 20, 2020. The county lists SunPass, other electronic toll devices, and SunPass TOLL-BY-PLATE as payment options. The toll is $1, and none of the project materials announce a rate change.

What the rest of October looks like, day by day

As of Oct. 7, the Oct. 6 Bands on the Beach show with The Astronauts has already happened. Here is the remaining island calendar next to what the toll plaza schedule calls for on each date.

Date Event Where and when Toll plaza lane shifts that day
Tue., Oct. 13 Bands on the Beach: SheAndThelts Gulfside Pavilion, 7 to 9 p.m. Scheduled, weekday
Fri., Oct. 16 Beach-O-Ween Pensacola Beach Boardwalk, 4 to 8 p.m. Scheduled to clear by 5 p.m.
Tue., Oct. 20 Bands on the Beach: The Oliver's Twist Gulfside Pavilion, 7 to 9 p.m. Scheduled, weekday
Fri., Oct. 23 Cinemas in the Sand: Toy Story 5 Per SRIA calendar Scheduled to clear by 5 p.m.
Tue., Oct. 27 Bands on the Beach: Horseshoe Kitty Gulfside Pavilion, 7 to 9 p.m. Scheduled, weekday
Thu., Oct. 29 Taste of the Beach Sunset Cruise Baja Coastal Kitchen, from 5 p.m. Scheduled, weekday
Fri., Oct. 30 VIP and Party Dinner Trolleys Departures 4:45 to 7:45 p.m. Target end date for the work
Sat., Oct. 31 Taste of the Beach festival Gulfside Pavilion, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. None scheduled, weekend
Sun., Nov. 1 Brunch Trolley Visitor Information Center, 10 a.m. None scheduled, weekend

The two Friday family nights both start before the 5 p.m. cutoff. Beach-O-Ween is free on the Boardwalk, with a costume contest, games, face painting, candy, and hot dogs. The Bands on the Beach dates are the opposite case. Every remaining October concert is on a Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., and the Authority's calendar notes these are lawn-chair shows. Horseshoe Kitty on Oct. 27 is the last Tuesday show listed for October. Four days later, the same pavilion hosts the festival.

Thursday and Friday, the construction-side half of the festival

Taste of the Beach: A Culinary Journey is the Pensacola Beach Chamber's four-day food event. It runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 1, and tickets went on sale Sept. 1. Its two ticketed evenings fall on weekdays, so both are scheduled during the toll plaza's working week.

Thursday's Sunset Cruise costs $125. It is hosted at Baja Coastal Kitchen and features Chef Torrey Hall. The Chamber lists two different times for it. The ticket page says 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event calendar entry says 5 to 7 p.m. and gives the location as 7 Casino Beach Boardwalk. Neither page names the vessel or a dock, so check with the Chamber before you head out. The host restaurant is new to Taste of the Beach. Baja Coastal Kitchen opened in March at 460 Pensacola Beach Blvd., in the space that was Laguna's Beach Bar & Grill. The Pensacola News Journal reported that it was open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with free customer parking.

Friday has two kinds of trolley dinners. The $150 VIP Trolley Dinner takes riders to several island restaurants for a progressive, multi-course meal. Departures are at 4:45, 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00 p.m. The $175 Party Dinner Trolley leaves at 7:45 p.m. on a vintage firetruck converted into an open-air trolley. It has a DJ and a trolley host, serves a signature cocktail each time guests board, and ends with an after-party. The first VIP departure is scheduled 15 minutes before the lane shifts are due to come down for the weekend. The 7:45 trolley leaves after the scheduled cutoff. The Chamber's VIP trolley sponsors are Gulf Breeze Natural Gas, Florida Power & Light, Flounder's Chowder House, and Crabs on the Beach.

Saturday is free to walk into, and that changes who shows up

The festival is the open part of the weekend. Admission is free, and dishes are priced at up to $10 each. The Chamber calls the day "Celebrate the Chefs." It lists live music, culinary demonstrations, beverage tastings, and family-friendly activities, and local chefs compete for the Taste of the Beach Signature Dish Award.

The Food Critic Ticket costs $125. It includes a featured plate from each participating restaurant and a ballot for the People's Choice Award. The Chamber suggests couples share one. The Chamber's pages give two different restaurant counts. The main event page says 14 and the festival listing says 16, and neither names the restaurants.

Because the festival falls on Halloween, families who would usually plan around trick-or-treating can fit a free daytime food event in first. It ends at 4 p.m., before dark. And since it's a Saturday, no lane shifts are scheduled at the toll plaza.

Sunday's brunch trolley is new this year

The weekend ends with an event the Chamber marks as new for 2026. The $75 Sunday Brunch Trolley, also called the Island Hopper, starts at 10 a.m. at the Pensacola Beach Visitor Information Center with a champagne toast. At 10:30 a.m., three trolleys leave on different routes. They stop at Hilton Pensacola Beach, Pensacola Beach Resort, and Casino Beach Bar & Grill, and each stop includes a brunch plate with a mimosa or Bloody Mary.

People who want the whole weekend have two packages:

  • Multi-Day Single Pass, $425: one Sunset Cruise ticket, one 6:15 p.m. Trolley Dinner, one Food Critic Ticket, and one Brunch Trolley ticket. The Chamber prices this at $50 less than buying the four separately.
  • Foodie Experience for Two, $740: two cruise tickets, two 6:15 p.m. Trolley Dinner seats, one shared Food Critic Ticket, and two Brunch Trolley tickets.

Both packages come with a $159-a-night rate and free parking at Fairfield Inn & Suites, the event's official hotel partner. Guests who book all three nights also get a welcome basket. The premier sponsor is Innisfree Hotels, and the Santa Rosa Island Authority is the major event partner. This is the same Innisfree that broke ground in July on a 215-room Hampton Inn & Suites at 20 Via De Luna Dr. It is planned with a two-story bar and grill, a lazy river, and a waterslide, and is projected to open in 2028.

After Oct. 30

If the county meets its target, the first weekend of November should be the first since mid-September without lane shifts waiting at the toll plaza on Monday morning. The Brunch Trolley on Nov. 1 will be the last Taste of the Beach event of the year. The project as a whole runs into November, so the county's project page is the place to check the status of the new gantry after the festival weekend. Next on the island's calendar, the Pensacola Beach Chamber has the Lighted Boat Parade leaving Sabine Marina on Friday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. Boat entries are due Nov. 23 at 5 p.m.
